The Caravan Triple uses the big cartridges 10 inch size (9-3/4”) x 4.5 inch.
This system has a 5 micron polyspun sediment filter, the second housing has a re-fillable KDF (1kg) and carbon cartridge with an impressive flow and treatment rate
KDF55 treats up to 95% of chlorines, up to 98% of metals such as lead, mercury, nickel, chromium and other dissolved metals.
KDF55 also controls micro-organism growth. Water contaminant treatment reduces bacteria and other micro-organisms by disrupting electron transport, causing cellular damage. KDF process media also kill bacteria by direct electrochemical contact and by the flash formation of hydroxyl radicals and hydrogen peroxide, both of which interfere with a microorganism's ability to function (Confused by that explination? In short when water passes through the KDF it creates static electrolysis which zaps the bacteria). Although KDF is anti bacterial it should not be relied upon as a total sterilizer for contaminated water, if harmful water is likely consider also using a UV sterilizer such as the Top Aqua UV 25 Watt
The third housing contains a re-fillable cartridge full of Cation resin which is water softener resin. This cartridge will remove most of the calcium, iron, magnesium and manganese.
The water softening resin can be re-used over and over as it can be regenerated using common table salt.
This system is well suited to those travelling in remote areas where hard water can be encounted, the hard water will be softened with this system and reduce the aggression that hard water places on items such as the hot water system but will also improve the taste.
Supplied with a hand held TDS meter to help you to know when the resin needs re-generating, this is an electronic device that gives a digital read out of water hardness.
