We imported some fluoride activated alumina type that we had heard about from the United states and were surprised with the results obtained in laboratory testing with a NATA certified testing lab.
With most of these types of fluoride cartridges the specification sheets are quite vague stating up to 90% treatment and usually those types of results are not obtainable in the real world. We also could have put up to 93% but we don’t work that way.
The results are as follows in real world testing in Australia.
The fluoride present in the test water was 720 PPB (parts per billion which is .72 parts per million).

From the above tables, you can see that after a fair bit of usage the flow rate if kept to a slower level will maintain an acceptable removal rate. Most water filter systems flow at around 2.5 litres per minute.
The most successful way to treat fluoride and other contaminates is with reverse osmosis.
