KDF55 treats up to 95% of chlorines, up to 98% of metals such as lead, mercury, nickel, chromium and other dissolved metals.
KDF55 also controls micro-organism growth. Water contaminant treatment reduces bacteria and other micro-organisms by disrupting electron transport, causing cellular damage. KDF process media also kill bacteria by direct electrochemical contact and by the flash formation of hydroxyl radicals and hydrogen peroxide, both of which interfere with a microorganism's ability to function (Confused by that explination? In short when water passes through the KDF it creates static electrolysis which zaps the bacteria). Although KDF is anti bacterial it should not be relied upon as a total sterilizer for contaminated water, if harmful water is likely consider also using a UV sterilizer such as the Top Aqua 25Watt
