I’ve been using the PSI-D004P (Premium Model) with the Matrikx™ Pb1 0.5 micron cartridge and overall it’s a solid, well-built filtration unit that delivers noticeable results where it counts.
The shipping from PSI Water Filters Australia was well packaged & received promptly within a couple of days after order.
The housing feels genuinely high quality and robust in hand and not cheap plastic, but a properly engineered unit that gives confidence it will last. It’s also made in the USA, which is reassuring from a quality-control standpoint and reflects in the overall fit and finish.
Installation was straightforward. The system is fairly intuitive to set up, and the included housing wrench/tool for unscrewing the canister is a small but very appreciated addition. It makes routine maintenance much easier and avoids the frustration you get with hand-tightened or overly stiff housings.
Performance-wise, the improvement in water quality is immediately noticeable. Chlorine taste and odour are significantly reduced, and the overall taste is much cleaner and smoother. You can also tell it’s doing its job on broader contaminants, the reduction in “tap water harshness” is quite obvious, and it gives peace of mind knowing it’s rated for Giardia and Cryptosporidium cysts as well as lead and other heavy metals. The added chloramine and VOC reduction is a strong bonus.
Filter changes are simple and quick. The cartridge swap process is well-designed and doesn’t feel messy or complicated, which makes ongoing maintenance far less of a chore than other systems I’ve used.
The only real downside is that despite following the instructions to minimise residual water dribble after shutting off the valve, it still tends to drip a fair amount. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it is a minor annoyance.
All in all, it’s a high-performing, well-built system with only a small flaw in the shutdown/drain behaviour.
Overall: 8.5/10
