Chloramine Water Filter Systems
Chloramine is being increasingly used in place of chlorine for the purpose of disinfection as it is more stable and remains in the water till it reaches the consumers. Chloramine also has a less tendency to form halomethanes and other disinfection by products which have been identified as potential carcinogens. Failure to control the proper distribution of chloramine has been seen to increase corrosion of the pipes used for distribution and further leaching of heavy metals into the water.
Research studies have indicated that the disinfection by products of chloramines are more potentially dangerous than those of chlorine and should be filtered out of water.
They have been studied extensively and are seen to cause DNA damage and are dangerous carcinogens. Even the water used for showering and bathing need to have chloramines removed as they can be directly absorbed through the skin. Water treatment plants use about 1 ppm of chloramine for disinfection. Chloramine is toxic to fish, amphibians and other marine invertebrates. Chloramine can directly enter their bloodstream through their gills and skin. Therefore, chloramine must be filtered out before it reaches water bodies. This includes the wastewater that is released into the environment.
This is the reason why chloramine water filtration systems are becoming more popular in the market. With a large variety available in the market, it is often a challenge to choose the right chloramine water filter equipment to be installed in the house.
