Twin Whole House Water Filtration System
This twin whole house filtration system is designed for high-flow household water treatment using two heavy-duty
20″ Big Blue filter housings.
The first stage provides sediment filtration, while the second stage provides carbon treatment for
chlorine, pesticides, herbicides, taste, odour and other chemical contaminants.
The system is supplied complete with both housings, both filter cartridges and a powder-coated wall bracket, ready for installation.
The Big Blue housings used in this system are certified to Australian Standard AS3497 and carry WaterMark certification 052014. They are rated to approximately 90 PSI operating pressure.
Why Choose This Twin Whole House System?
- Two-stage whole house filtration for sediment and chemical treatment.
- Heavy-duty 20″ Big Blue housings designed for whole-house flow rates.
- 1″ threaded inlet and outlet connections for larger household plumbing systems.
- Choice of 1, 5 or 20 micron sediment filtration depending on the incoming water quality.
- 300,000 litre rated carbon cartridge for chlorine and general chemical treatment.
- Industry-standard cartridges allow easy replacement and upgrading.
- Pleated sediment filters can be cleaned several times, helping extend service life where suitable.
- Australian Standard and WaterMark certified housings.
- System supplied complete and ready for installation.
How the Two-Stage System Works
Stage 1 — Sediment Filtration
The first stage uses a 20″ Big Blue housing fitted with a 1 micron, 5 micron or 20 micron sediment cartridge.
A polyspun sediment cartridge is commonly used to capture dirt, rust, sediment and other suspended material before the water reaches the carbon stage.
A pleated sediment cartridge may also be used. One of the advantages of pleated filters is that they can often be removed and cleaned several times before replacement is required, depending on water quality and filter condition.
Stage 2 — Carbon Filtration
The second stage uses another 20″ Big Blue housing fitted with a GAC carbon cartridge rated for up to 300,000 litres for chlorine and general chemical treatment.
Different carbon media can also be selected depending on the contaminants present in the water supply.

Optional Upgrades
Vertical Pressure Gauges
Optional vertical pressure gauges: +$120
Pressure gauges can be added to assist with monitoring the pressure before and after the filters. This can make it easier to identify when cartridges are becoming restricted and may require cleaning or replacement.
Stainless Steel Bracket Upgrade
Optional stainless steel bracket upgrade: +$25
Recommended for installations located within 5 km of the ocean
or in environments exposed to salt air or increased corrosion risk.

| Depth | 200 mm |
| Recommended servicing clearance | Allow approximately 50 mm below the housings for cartridge changes |
Carbon Cartridge Options
The refillable carbon cartridge can be ordered with different types of carbon media depending on the water supply and treatment requirements.
| Carbon Type | Best Suited For | Key Treatment Characteristics |
|---|---|---|
| Coal-Based Carbon | General chlorinated water | Strong treatment for chlorine, pesticides, herbicides, colour, taste and odour. Provides some treatment for volatile organic compounds. |
| Coconut Carbon | Chlorinated water with higher VOC treatment requirements | Strong treatment for chlorine, pesticides, herbicides, taste and odour. Coconut carbon generally provides stronger treatment for VOCs such as oils and creosote. |
| Silver Nitrate Impregnated Coal Carbon | Un-chlorinated water supplies | Strong treatment for chlorine, pesticides, herbicides, colour, taste and odour. The silver treatment helps prevent bacteria from growing on the carbon surface. |
| Chloramine Carbon | Water supplies treated with chloramine | Catalytic carbon designed to treat chloramine by addressing both chlorine and ammonia while they remain bonded. Also treats pesticides, herbicides, colour, taste and odour. |
| Carbon + 2 kg KDF | Water requiring broader heavy metal, scale and chemical treatment | Carbon assists with chlorine, pesticides, herbicides, colour, taste and odour. KDF assists with heavy metals, scale and some bacteria reduction. Not suitable for un-chlorinated water. |
More About Each Carbon Type
Coal-Based Carbon
Coal-based activated carbon provides strong general treatment for chlorine, pesticides, herbicides, colour, taste and odour. It also provides some treatment for VOCs.
Coconut Carbon
Coconut-shell activated carbon provides strong treatment for chlorine, pesticides, herbicides, taste and odour.
It is particularly useful where stronger treatment for VOCs, oils and compounds such as creosote is required.
Silver Nitrate Impregnated Carbon
Silver nitrate impregnated carbon is designed for un-chlorinated water supplies.
With untreated water, conventional carbon can provide a surface on which bacteria may grow. Silver-treated carbon helps inhibit bacterial growth on the surface of the carbon media.
On a chlorinated town water supply, the chlorine normally assists with controlling bacterial growth on the carbon.
Chloramine Carbon
Chloramine carbon is a form of catalytic activated carbon designed specifically for water supplies treated with chloramine.
Chloramine is made from chlorine combined with ammonia. Ordinary coal or coconut carbon may remove the chlorine component without effectively treating the ammonia. Catalytic chloramine carbon is designed to treat the compound while the chlorine and ammonia remain bonded.
It also provides treatment for pesticides, herbicides, colour, taste and odour.
Carbon + KDF
The KDF option combines activated carbon with approximately 2 kg of KDF media.
The carbon component assists with chlorine, pesticides, herbicides, colour, taste and odour, while the KDF media is used for additional treatment of heavy metals, scale and some bacteria.
Important: The Carbon + KDF cartridge is not suitable for un-chlorinated water.
For more information about KDF media, visit: KDF Fluid Treatment.
Replacement Filters & Parts
Replacement whole house filter cartridges and related components can be purchased from the PSI Filters whole house cartridge range.
Best Suited To
- Whole-house filtration on chlorinated town water
- Homes requiring sediment and chlorine reduction
- Water supplies containing pesticides, herbicides, taste or odour issues
- Properties requiring a choice of specialised carbon media
- Chloramine-treated water when fitted with catalytic chloramine carbon
- Installations requiring high-flow 1″ plumbing connections
Installation
The filtration system is supplied complete and ready for installation.
Allow at least 50 mm of additional clearance below the filter housings so the filter bowls can be removed when cartridges are being serviced.
Installing near the coast?
Choose the optional stainless steel bracket upgrade.
It is recommended for systems installed within 5 km of the ocean
to provide improved resistance to salt air and corrosion.
